Welcome to Explorer Consulting, LLC’s links page.  If you have found this site, you are either thinking about exploration or you are on your way into the field and doing your homework.  We believe the following web sites provide some of the best information available to help you on your way.  We regularly use these sites and the products they offer, so we know they work.  Good hunting!

Know Before You Go

www.explorers.org - The web site of The Explorers Club in New York City, also known as "The World Center for Exploration."  The Explorers Club’s members have been everywhere and done everything.  This site is a good place to start.

www.lonelyplanet.com - From the publishers of the Lonely Planet field guides.  This site offers some of the best street level intel on the web.

www.quirkbooks.com - Quirk Publications, the publishers of those incredibly handy Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbooks, which should be your one personal item if you are ever a contestant on Survivor.

www.planeta.com – For those who prefer eco-travel, this is the way to go.

www.worldhum.com - Tired of Bali?  If you want to find the next "hot" destination before the rest of the world, start here.  Great travel information and articles.

www.mapblast.com - Better than Mapquest.

http://earth.google.com/ - Google Earth.  Better than anything.

http://travel.state.gov - Check the U.S. State Department’s travel advisories for up to date information on just about everywhere.

www.janes.com - For more detailed intelligence and strategic analyses, check here after you visit the State Dept. site.

www.stratfor.com - Outstanding global analyses, including up to the minute intelligence, political forecasts, and strategic information.

www.intellicast.com - Everything you need to know about the weather.

www.mountainzone.com - The old standby for everything related to climbing and mountaineering.

www.explorersweb.com - Up to the minute news on the world of mountaineering.

Travel Booking

www.adrenalinepages.com - Links to some of the world’s best adventure sports outfitters.

www.deepoceanexpeditions.com - If you have seen the Titanic artifact exhibition in Philadelphia or elsewhere and you want to see the Grand Old Lady herself before she melts into the sea floor, this is the place to go.  Tell Belinda and Mike we said "G'day!"

www.expedia.com, www.travelocity.com, www.sidestep.com, www.orbitz.com  - Take your pick.

Gear

www.rei.com - The starting place for outdoor gear.

www.backcountry.com - The best place for hardcore outdoor equipment.

www.lostworldsinc.com - The most impossibly authentic bomber and motorcycle jackets available anywhere.

www.rolex.com - Rolex has been sponsoring exploration for nearly 80 years.  If you want a watch that always works, both today and when you give it to your son in 20 years, start and end your search here.

www.adventurecell.com - Never leave home without a personal sat phone, whether you are going diving in the Galapagos, exploring the Titanic or simply motorcycling in Iceland.  It's a lot handier than you would expect and coverage is excellent around the world.

www.randallknives.com - Seriously, can there be any question?  Randall Made Knives have accompanied soldiers in to combat since World War II.  These hand made knives are highly sought after, by both explorers and collectors, because of their bulletproof reliability.  Get yourself a Model 18 or Model 14 and stop worrying.

High Tech

www.gizmodo.com - Honest reviews of the latest gadgets on the market.

www.bizrate.com - When you need to find the best prices on high tech equipment, comparison shop for it here.

www.dpreview.com - By far the best site for reviews and info on the latest in digital cameras.

Transportation

www.bmwmotorcycles.com - Harleys are great, especially if you're a 50-something lawyer with the urge to see Sturgis.  But if you really want to see the world, you need a BMW motorcycle.  Get your hands on a R1200GS (like mine!) and forward your mail to Tierra del Fuego.  You'll be glad you did.

Health

http://scuba-doc.com/ - The Ten Foot Stop newsletter.  The best resource on the planet for dive medicine, and easily understood by those of us without medical degrees.

www.mohotta.com - You weren’t really thinking of leaving home without hot sauce, were you?  What were you planning to give to the tribal elders?  Beads?  Try again.
