David Concannon has been an advisor to six expeditions to the wreck of the R.M.S. Titanic and a participant in three Titanic expeditions. He has made four dives to explore the Titanic wreck site, at a depth of 12,460 feet, including the first dive of the century in July 2000. Mr. Concannon has explored almost four square miles of the Titanic wreck site, spending nearly 50 hours on the bottom. Mr. Concannon has discovered and explored areas of the Titanic wreck site that were never known to exist, including a new debris field far to the south of what was previously thought to be the southern edge of the wreck site. These new discoveries have provided valuable insights into the final moments of the Titanic and the 1,500 people that lost their lives in this tragedy.
In August 2005, David Concannon led an expedition to explore new areas of the R.M.S.Titanic wreck site that he had discovered on his last dive to the Titanic in 2000. The expedition redrew the map around the Titanic by a wide margin. Expedition members uncovered previously unknown areas of the Titanic wreck site to the east and to the south, and they explored two large sections of the Titanic's double bottom hull which provided new clues to the ship's sinking. This was the final expedition conducted at the Titanic wreck site, and it may be the last expedition to ever visit the Titanic.
A television program based on the expedition, TITANIC'S FINAL MOMENTS: MISSING PIECES, hosted by "Deep Sea Detectives" John Chatterton and Richie Kohler, has aired repeatedly on The History Channel, A&E and other networks in the United States and the United Kingdom. The program has been one of the highest rated programs in the network's history. A book based on the 2005 expedition and exploring new theories about the Titanic's sinking, TITANIC'S LAST SECRETS, was published on October 1, 2008.
